Tikehau

Ninamu Resort

The Ninamu Resort is hidden away on a private island in the southwest corner of Tikehau, just five minutes by boat from the airport. Surrounded by pink sand beaches, abundant marine life, impeccable waves and prevailing trade winds, this secluded retreat is the ultimate paradise for every type of water sports enthusiast. It caters to divers, surfers, fishermen, stand up paddlers and kite boarders. In fact, the name Ninamu, which means 'blue' in Tahitian, was likely inspired by the surrounding sapphire lagoon.

There are only eight unique bungalows at the Ninamu Resort, all handcrafted from natural, locally sourced materials. Each one is discreetly tucked away and hardly visible from the shore, creating the perfect setting for seclusion and privacy. This little boutique lodge is ideal for relaxation. The restaurant serves homemade, organic cuisine and offers sweeping views of the lagoon, reef and sea, providing a wonderful place to lounge during the afternoon or evening.

    Our Insights

The owner of this resort, Chris O'Callaghan, is a very sociable and accommodating Australian native. He organizes the annual Billabong Pro surfing competition in Tahiti and originally built the hotel as his own personal hideaway. He lives on the grounds with his wife, Greta, and their three friendly dogs. Chris constructed everything by hand using mostly natural materials found on the island, meaning no two bungalows are exactly alike. These luxury accommodations contrast nicely with the casual, welcoming and adventurous spirit of the resort and staff. Their pizza nights are something you won't soon forget. Or join them for an evening crab hunt, where they go in search of coconut crabs, mark them with a drop of paint, and try to find them again the next night.
